Love it or hate it, David Bowie and Mick Jagger's cover of 'Dancing in the Street' has become an enduring hit.
The superstar duo rush-recorded their version of the Martha and the Vandellas classic in 1985 for Live Aid when it became clear that technical issues would make a live duet from Wembley Stadium and John F. Kennedy Stadium impossible.

The song and video were completed in just 13 hours, but its legacy has lived on way past its Live Aid origins.
"We had such a laugh doing 'Dancing in the Street' with both the song recorded in the studio and the video done in one day," Mick Jagger said shortly ahead of the song's 40th anniversary.
"Remarkable how we pulled it off really. The video is hilarious to watch now. We enjoyed camping it up and trying to impersonate each other's moves, making it up as we went along."

He added: "It was the only time David and myself collaborated on anything, which is a real shame."
As Mick alluded to, the video has remained a camp classic to this day.
Internet wags have had plenty of fun with it over the years, including posting it without the audio to really highlight how daft those dance moves were, or stripping away the song and replacing it with the theme tune to sitcom Bottom.
To celebrate 40 years since the release of 'Dancing in the Street', the video has been relaunched on YouTube in glorious 4K quality, so you can enjoy every single movie in high definition.
The song itself is being re-released as a limited edition white vinyl 12-inch single on August 29, 2025. featuring all the official mixes of the track.
And the recording will continue to support good causes, with 30% of the retail price going to The Band Aid Charitable Trust.
