Elton John announces two massive shows as he renews his live farewell

Elton John has finished touring but is continuing his long goodbye with a couple of major live shows.

Elton John's Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour was one of the biggest and most impressive in rock history.

The singer-songwriter's 49th official jaunt took in 330 shows over nine legs, with a total attendance of over six million concertgoers.

And thanks to lockdowns and the occasional health issue, it took place over an incredible five year period.

Elton had more than earned the right to hang up his touring boots after all that, but he always promised that while he was saying goodbye to the tour bus, he always planned to play the occasional live show.

There's been the odd private performance here and there, and he's already announced a major festival performance for 2026, as the headliner of Rock in Rio in Brazil on September 7.

And Elton will perform at Estadio Banorte (also known as the Azteca) on Friday, October 2 and Saturday, October 3.

That's the stadium that recently hosted a number of FIFA World Cup 2026 matches, including England's impressive 3-2 victory over hosts Mexico.

"Mexico City has always held a special place in my heart," Elton said.

"I was truly disappointed that the pandemic kept me from touring Latin America during my Farewell tour which makes this return especially meaningful.

"I'm thrilled to finally share this very special moment with my fans after all these years."

Tickets go on general sale at Midday on Thursday, July 16 local time, with various presales open from Monday.
