As well as being the King of Rock 'n' Roll, Elvis Presley has a fair claim to being the King of Christmas, too.

Elvis released the biggest selling Christmas album of all time with 1957's Elvis' Christmas Album, which got re-released umpteen times and was an ever-present in the US charts for years and years.

Among the standards on that record are versions of Irving Berlin's 'White Christmas', made famous by Bing Crosby, and the definitive version of 'Blue Christmas', too.

But it turns out the King was also partial to Christmas of a different colour.

It's widely reported that Elvis was a massive fan of horror movie Black Christmas.

Written by Roy Moore and directed by Bob Clark, the 1974 slasher starred Olivia Hussey, Keir Dullea, Margot Kidder, and John Saxon and was loosely based on some real-life murders that happened in Montreal.

While there's no on-the-record quote that we can find, Elvis is said to have watched the movie at Graceland "every Christmas", which would have only meant the three years between its release and the King's tragic passing in 1977.

But the short-lived tradition apparently lives on, with members of the Presley family watching the film together come Christmastime.

The legend of the film continues and it's actually been remade not once but twice in recent years.

Glen Morgan directed the 2006 version of Black Christmas, while Sophia Takal also made her own Black Christmas in 2019.

It wasn't all horror in the Presley household. Elvis was also a major fan of Monty Python, even quoting from The Holy Grail every time he had a bad show.
