"She was the best musician anyone could have in their band and the best friend anyone could have in their life."
Christine McVie had died at the age of 79.
The Fleetwood Mac singer, songwriter and keyboard player's passing was confirmed today (November 30) by her family in a statement posted on social media.
"On behalf of Christine McVie’s family, it is with a heavy heart we are informing you of Christine’s death," the statement read.
"She passed away peacefully at hospital this morning, Wednesday, November 30th 2022, following a short illness. She was in the company of her family.
"We kindly ask that you respect the family’s privacy at this extremely painful time and we would like everyone to keep Christine in their hearts and remember the life of an incredible human being, and revered musician who was loved universally. RIP Christine McVie."

McVie's official pages also re-posted a message from Fleetwood Mac, mourning the loss of the musician who joined the band in 1970 and was a key player for their most successful period.

"She was truly one-of-a-kind, special and talented beyond measure. She was the best musician anyone could have in their band and the best friend anyone could have in their life.

"We were so lucky to have a life with her. Individually and together, we cherished Christine deeply and are thankful for the amazing memories we have. She will be so very missed.”
McVie wrote many of Fleetwood Mac's greatest songs, including 'Don't Stop', 'Little Lies' and 'Everywhere'.
In 1998, she was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and received a Brit Award for Outstanding Contribution to Music.

She took a break from the band the same year, and was semi-retired until she rejoined the group in 2014.
As well as her work with Fleetwood Mac, she released the solo albums Christine Perfect, Christine McVie and In the Meantime
She released the collaborative album Lindsey Buckingham Christine McVie in 2017 and only this year released the solo collection Songbird.
