Captioning the post, he wrote: "Hoppy Birdy Uncle Paul! Only Love… Jude x."
Credited as being written by Lennon/McCartney, the iconic song 'Hey Jude' was written as a message from Paul to a young Julian when his father left his mother Cynthia for Yoko Ono in 1968.
The tribute from Julian was accompanied by posts from McCartney's daughters, photographer Mary McCartney and fashion designer Stella McCartney.
Mary shared a video montage of her father, including shots of him watching a solar eclipse and a picture of him with friend Bruce Springsteen, with the caption 'Happy Birthday Dad x with all my love x Mary'.
Stella McCartney took to Instagram on June 18 and wrote a beautiful tribute to her father, saying how much he inspires her to be better.
"On this day, a few years ago, my magnificent Dad was born…
"My grandma Mary, from Northern Ireland, brought her first baby boy into existence and I raise a glass to celebrate her bringing the most brilliant and incredible human to our world.
"I share my father with all of you because you all know him and his creations, and some of you may have had your life changed by him in some way…
"So I send this message of birthday wishes to you my beautiful dad with deep pride and love.
"It is impossible to say how much I love you in words, so I will just squeeze you later and you can feel it instead xxx"
