It's impossible to move these days for glossy music biopics, with the success of Bohemian Rhapsody kicking open the door for films on everyone from Elvis Presley and Amy Winehouse to Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen and Bob Marley.

But Hugh Jackman is leading a musical biopic that's a little bit different. In Song Sung Blue, he plays not Neil Diamond but Neil Diamond impersonator/interpreter Mike Sardina, who performed as tribute act Lightning & Thunder with Claire Sardina, played by Kate Hudson.

Inspired by a true story, Song Sung Blue is based on a 2008 documentary of the same name, and also features Michael Imperioli, Fisher Stevens, Jim Belushi, Ella Anderson, King Princess, Mustafa Shakir and Hudson Hilbert Hensley.

It's written and directed by Craig Brewer, best known for his hit movies Hustle & Flow, Dolemite Is My Name and Coming 2 America, as well as the 2011 remake of Footloose.

The film will be released on Christmas Day 2025 in the US and in January in the UK.

The first trailer for the film shows the Sardinas getting together and plotting their path to tribute stardom while struggling with family turmoil, culminating in a mass gig singalong of 'Sweet Caroline'.

'Song Sung Blue' takes its name from Neil Diamond's 1972 self-penned hit.

The song was a number one single in in the US and featured on his classic Moods album.
