Queen announce "definitively the most real experience" of the band in concert

Queen's incredible live show from Budapest is coming to the very big screen.

Even after the tragic death of legendary frontman Freddie Mercury in 1991, Queen have played some of the biggest venues in the world.

First with Paul Rodgers and then with Adam Lambert, the duo of Brian May and Roger Taylor have continued to wow global audiences.

But impressive as Queen + Adam Lambert are, there's no substitute for the original Queen lineup, including Mercury and John Deacon.

Previously, the closest you could get to reliving that experience is loading up a DVD of a past performance, but now you'll be able to get something much more like being in the venue itself.

And we're not just talking about the upcoming IMAX and cinema release of Queen's 1986 live show in Budapest, though those screenings will be fun enough for sure.

For one night only in London, the newly restored concert film will be converted into a full live-gig-style experience, complete with giant LED screen, surround sound and synchronised lighting and archive memorabilia.

The event takes place on October 3, 2026, at an appropriately legendary venue: London's Roundhouse in Camden Town.

"It’s going to be definitively the most real experience ever of us, Queen, in our glory days," said Brian May. "I think people will get lost in it and even forget they’re watching a film."

Queen Budapest is a document of the first Western stadium rock show to take place behind the Iron Curtain, recorded on July 27, 1986 at Budapest’s Népstadion during the band's The Magic Tour.

The band sold out 80,000 tickets for the show and it's estimated that a further 45,000 people listened to the concert from outside the venue.

The career spanning set featured hits like 'We Will Rock You', 'We Are The Champions', 'A Kind Of Magic', 'Crazy Little Thing Called Love', 'Under Pressure', 'Who Wants To Live Forever', 'Hammer To Fall' and 'Bohemian Rhapsody' as well as a version of traditional Hungarian folk song 'Tavaszi Szél Vizet Áraszt'.

The original Queen lineup would only play five more live shows, with their final concert coming at Knebworth Park in England on August 9, 1986.

As well as the cinema release and special event, the restored and remastered Queen Budapest from Playback Live will be made available on Blu-Ray, DVD, CD & Digital editions, as well as a 3LP vinyl set.
