Rod Stewart cancels another live show for health reasons but flies to see Scotland in the World Cup

Sir Rod has had to cancel a few shows in recent years to rest his throat.

Sir Rod Stewart has cancelled a live show due to ongoing throat issues.

The legendary singer is known to often be on strict voice rest between his concerts but he's still been forced to postpone or pull out of the occasional live performance when the dreaded laryngitis strikes.

And that's just what happened last week, when Sir Rod was forced to cancel a concert at the North Island Credit Union Amphitheatre in Chula Vista, California, on Friday night (June 12) just hours before showtime.

“Rod Stewart very regretfully has had to cancel his show tonight in Chula Vista, California,” a statement posted on his Instagram account and captured by The Independent read.

"He travelled to the venue and made every effort to perform, but on the advice of his doctors and following a diagnosis of an acute upper respiratory infection that has resulted in laryngitis, he is unable to take to the stage this evening."

Proving that he'd made the effort (and the journey), Sir Rod posted a picture of himself at the empty venue.

"Well here I am in beautiful Chula Vista as the stage is being taken down around me," Rod said.

"Following treatment, I'm feeling much better, but my voice is not."

He added: "I'm very disappointed and sincerely apologise for any inconvenience to my fans.

"I did everything I could to make the show happen tonight, but unfortunately it just wasn't possible. I will do my utmost to reschedule."

Thankfully, famous football fan Sir Rod was well enough to travel with his sons Liam and Alastair to the Boston Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts a day later to see Scotland beat Haiti 1-0 in their first World Cup finals match in 28 years.

"Me and the boys off to Boston to see our Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 in the World Cup!" he captioned the video. "No Scotland no party."
