The best things in life are free. But you can give them to the birds and bees...
The Beatles back catalogue has been released and re-released more times than anybody can even begin to count, with various box sets being especially beautiful.
One very special release was The Beatles in Mono vinyl boxset. Released way back in 2014, it's long been out of print and only available second-hand for very silly sums (around a grand, if you're asking).
While the stereo mixes of The Beatles albums have become the standard versions (they're the ones you find on streaming services) over the years, at the time, the mono versions were how everyone really got to know and love the Fab Four.
And The Beatles in Mono features those first nine mono-released UK albums (all the way from Please Please Me to The Beatles).
The package is rounded out with the US Magical Mystery Tour album, and the Mono Masters compilation of non-album tracks.
As with the 2014 editions, these 180g heavyweight vinyl records are AAA (analogue) pressings, mastered from the original quarter-inch masters at Abbey Road using the original processes used in the 1960s, without any digital jiggery-pokery at all.
There is one not-so-small catch, though.
The Beatles in Mono was never cheap. In 2014 you could pick up a copy for around £260, which was a tidy sum though a shade less than £25 an album.
This 2025 repressing is only available via The Beatles official store, and it ships from July 18, 2025.
And its new price is an eye-watering £429.99. That works out at an average of £39 per album, if you were wondering.
It's seemingly sold-out on pre-orders, but keep an eye on the site in case it pops back up again ahead of its official launch.
Whether or not it's worth it is up to you, but short of having those 2014 discs or pristine copies from 60 years ago, this is your best bet for getting that gorgeous, original Beatles sound.
