Bonnie Tyler in induced coma after emergency intestinal surgery

Bonnie Tyler has been put into an induced coma after she was hospitalised for emergency intestinal surgery.

The 'Total Eclipse of the Heart' singer is being treated in Portugal.

"We are very sorry to announce that Bonnie has been admitted to hospital in Faro, Portugal, where she has a home, for emergency intestinal surgery," read a statement on Bonnie's official website yesterday (May 7).

"The surgery went well and she is now recuperating. We know that all of her family, friends, and fans will be concerned about this news and will be wishing her well for a full and swift recovery."

Hours after this statement was made, a spokesperson later confirmed Portuguese media reports that Tyler had been put into an induced coma.

"Bonnie has been put into an induced coma by her doctors to aid her recovery," he said.

"We know that you all wish her well and ask for privacy at this difficult time please."We will issue a further statement when we are able to."

Aged 74, the Wales-born singer is still very much an active performer, having released her 18th studio album The Best Is Yet To Come in 2021 and launched the singles 'Only Love' and 'One World One Home' last month.

She played a career-spanning set of hits at London's Shepherds Bush Empire in March of this year, and was due to perform in Malta and Germany this month.

Tyler has further tour dates booked across Europe for the rest of 2026, including sets at the Summer's End Angus in Brechin, Scotland on August 16 and at the Sunshine Festival in Upton upon Severn on August 29.

She is due to play a massive homecoming show at the Utilita Arena in Cardiff on December 17.
