Rock legend Dave Edmunds is battling for his life in a Welsh hospital after suffering a major cardiac arrest in late July, his wife has revealed in an emotional social media update.
Cici Edmunds, married to the 81-year-old musician for four decades, shared the devastating news on Facebook, describing the terrifying moment when her husband briefly stopped breathing in her arms.
The Welsh rock icon, best known for his 1970 hit 'I Hear You Knocking' and his work with supergroup Rockpile alongside Nick Lowe, is said to have temporarily 'died' during the cardiac episode before being revived by medical staff using CPR.
Medical professionals were able to resuscitate Dave, but his wife confirmed he now faces severe complications including brain damage and significant memory loss. Currently in intensive care and on a ventilator, Dave remains at high risk of suffering another cardiac arrest, which doctors warn could prove fatal.
"Thank you everyone who has so kindly left many lovely posts of support and have touched my heart with your love and support through this heartbreaking difficult time," Cici wrote. "As I told you all my beloved husband Dave Edmunds of 40 plus years suffered a major cardiac arrest. And passed away in my arms.
"But was by a miracle saved by a fantastic medical team in the hospital. Who resurrected him and intubated him. Put him in an induced coma.
"I have an update! Some great news to share with all you kindhearted people on here who have left so many lovely posts of support and encouragement and prayers. I'd like to thank you all from the bottom of my heart. It's made this horrific heartbreaking journey easier knowing there are such great human beings on here.
"Dave Edmunds my beloved husband is making a good recovery it seems positive. Yeah! He's breathing on his own now. He remembers me. He's even cracked a few jokes.
"I can't begin to tell you how relieved I feel. He still has a long road to recovery. We still have a long road to recovery. But there is hope now. And I hope and pray my fantastic funny talented husband Dave will be Rocking the house down in the future."
Dave Edmunds first rose to prominence in the 1960s as frontman of blues-rock band Love Sculpture before launching a successful solo career in the 1970s. His energetic blend of rockabilly, rock and roll, and pub rock made him a favourite on both sides of the Atlantic.

Beyond his performing career, Edmunds became a sought-after producer, working on the debut album from rockabilly revivalists the Stray Cats and helping shape the sound of late 70s British rock.
His collaboration with Nick Lowe in Rockpile produced the acclaimed album Seconds of Pleasure in 1980, featuring the single 'Teacher Teacher'. The partnership sadly ended due to management disputes before the band could fully capitalise on their success.
Cici Edmunds, who has been dealing with her own health challenges recently, described the experience as "horrific" and admitted to suffering from post-traumatic stress following the incident. "Dave will have a very long journey ahead of him if he survives," she wrote. "We both have. But knowing that there are kind-hearted people such as you all makes this tremendously difficult journey a little easier."
Edmunds' most recent studio work was the 2015 instrumental album On Guitar... Rags & Classics, and he effectively retired from touring in 2017 after a handful of farewell performances.
