Dr Hook formed in Union City, New Jersey in 1969 with Dennis joining co-founding members Billy Francis, George Cummings, Joseph Oliver and fellow joint frontman Ray Sawyer.
Locorriere was the lead singer on a number of the band's biggest hits, including 1972's 'Sylvia's Mother' and 1979's 'When You're In Love With a Beautiful Woman'.
Sawyer quit the group in 1983 and was allowed to tour as Ray Sawyer of Dr. Hook or Dr. Hook featuring Ray Sawyer. It was Locorriere who kept the band's name, although they formally split in 1985.

Locorriere was living with his third wife in West Sussex at the time of his death.
