Grand Theft Auto V was released back in September 2013 and it's fair to say the follow-up has been somewhat long awaited.

It was recently announced that the release date of Grand Theft Auto VI has been pushed back another year to May 26, 2026, but a new trailer has been launched to keep fans happy in the meantime.

The last teaser for the game was released way back in December 2023 and introduced a new generation of videogamers to the sound of Tom Petty's underheard 'Love is a Long Road'.

This time around, the song being revived is The Pointer Sisters' 'Hot Together'.

The 1986 song wasn't a single, but it was the title track of the girls' 12th studio album.

The song, which opened the second side of the Hot Together album, was written by Sharon Robinson.

While Sharon has written songs for countless artists, including Diana Ross, Don Henley, Michael Bolton, The Temptations, Roberta Flack and Patti LaBelle, she's best known for her collaborations with Leonard Cohen.

Robinson first toured with Cohen in 1979 and went on to co-write every track on his 2001 album Ten New Songs, and even featured on the album's cover alongside Leonard.

Back to 'Hot Together'. While the song hasn't been released as a single, it has appeared on a couple of movies before.

A year after it was released it featured on the soundtrack to Mel Brooks's hilarious Spaceballs. The same year it also popped up on Richard Dreyfuss movie Stakeout.

Its positioning in the trailer for one of the most high-profile video games in history has got plenty of people searching for, and listening to, the song itself.

Spotify has claimed that streams of The Pointer Sisters' 'Hot Together' have risen by 182,000%.

Grand Theft Auto cuts through popular culture like almost nothing else," said Spotify’s global head of editorial Sulinna Ong.

"Music has been synonymous with the series since the very beginning, so it's great to see fans both new and established connecting with an iconic track in this way."

Here's hoping for more bangers when the game finally hits consoles.
