Lionel Richie gets some tests after apparently struggling during a live show.

Lionel Richie checked himself into hospital at the weekend after an apparent medical scare during a live show.

The legendary singer-songwriter was put into intensive care at St Louis following his performance at The Muny in Forest Park, TMZ reports.

Fans were said to have seen Richie struggling during the concert, and he apparently sat down on a chair to perform the closing rendition of 'All Night Long'.

As well as tests for dehydration, doctors have tested Lionel for "cardiac-related issues", the outlet added.

While he had hoped to be discharged yesterday, Richie is still in hospital as of September 2.

Richie was previously hospitalised in June after telling fans he felt "dizzy" and "strange" during a show in Minnesota.

He was booked to play the UK at the Sandringham Estate in August, but that show never took place following the cancellation of the whole HeritageLive Festival of which it was part.

Richie's last studio album was 2012's duets reworking album Tuskegee.
