T. Rex frontman Marc Bolan was a glam rock superstar and one of the most influential stars of the 1970s.

He tragically died in a car accident in 1977 aged just 29, just as he was enjoying a musical resurgence, but his legend has only really grown in the years since.

And Marc received a special honour from English Heritage yesterday (September 30) when a blue plaque was installed at his former home in London's Maida Vale.

A number of stars were present for the ceremony, including Yes man and session god Rick Wakeman, who played on several T. Rex recordings, and Primal Scream frontman Bobby Gillespie.

"I am pretty sure that if Marc is with us in spirit today he'd be absolutely thrilled to see the blue plaque and probably would write a song about it," said Rick.

"Marc was a truly remarkable person, with an extraordinary clarity of vision about what he wanted to achieve - a quality that made him unique across so many musical, fashion and artistic forms."

It was perfect timing for the honour, as a previously unreleased T. Rex song has just been released from the archives.

T. Rex made their first attempt to record 'I'm Dazed' at Château d’Hérouville studios near Paris in March 1975, but the version that has emerged is a second attempt taped at April 22 at Musicland Studios in Munich.

"While cataloguing some old T. Rex tapes, I spotted tracks I'd never heard before. When we played the reel and Marc's voice came through, it was magical," said consultant to Demon Music Martin Barden

"To unearth this completely unheard track, 'I'm Dazed', after 50 years, feels like finding hidden treasure and is a true gift for fans

"This song was recorded when Marc was living an itinerant life, hopping across borders and continents – and producing some of the most innovative music of his life. It is such a pleasure to be sharing new music after all these years.”

The full T. Rex lineup of the era recorded the song, meaning Bolan with Bolan, Steve Currie, Gloria Jones, Davey Lutton and Dino Dines, with the session being produced by Bolan himself and engineered by Reinhold Mack.

As well as being available to stream now, the song will be available as a limited edition 7” from November 7, with 'Billy Super Duper' on the B-side.
